ON HIS 44th birthday our veteran defender Matt Solway (pictured) has decided to finally retire.
‘It has come to a time when my body is struggling and I need to watch my boys (Ben and Tom) from the sidelines,’ Matt wrote in a club What’s App group message on Saturday.
The announcement provoked a series of positive messages from coaches and teammates alike.
‘Thanks for all your hard work and great effort over the last season and a half,’ said head coach Chris Tardif, who added: ‘Hats off for the dedication and self-discipline to continue to play for so long.’
Under Tardif ‘Solly’ has played his best football for very many years and last season picked up one of the club’s main player of the year awards.
His presence among the group will be sorely missed.
After starting his career at Northerners, ‘Solly’ has been a dedicated and committed Ranger for very many years and the club thanks him for his fantastic efforts for so long.
‘Solly’, we hope to see you following the club and young Tom from the touchline for many years to come. Thanks for everything.
