A FRUSTRATED spectator at Northfield on Tuesday was new midfielder Sam Green.
Having made such an impressive debut in the league match against a Vale Rec four days earlier, Sam will have to wait the best part of two months for his second appearance after learning he had broken his wrist in two places during that game.
His arm has been put in plaster which will stay on for six weeks.
Good luck for the swiftest of returns Sam.
RANGERS U18s warmed up for their opening competitive game - an Old Vic Cup tie at Port Soif this coming Sunday - with a 10-0 win over Vale Rec last weekend.
CF Independant 0, Rangers Veterans 2
IT was a glorious afternoon at the College Field for the vets first game of the season, where we were hosted by Indies.
Although the first half lacked goals (or even a shot on target), Rangers enjoyed the best of the action, particularly with the pace and trickery of Dale Garland and Matt Bailey proving difficult for the home team to handle.
The second half saw Rangers retain overall control of the game, with Shingai Mutambo and Ross Steer dominating in centre midfield, the red and blacks were able to break the deadlock.
Our first goal came courtesy of a penalty kick. Dale made a trademark run down the right wing and having cut into the box and beaten his man, he was cruelly taken down with a cynical challenge.
Stu Mallett stepped up to cooly slot the ball into the bottom right hand corner, to put the visitors into a deserved lead.
Matt Bailey got his reward for the tireless running he demonstrated from the first minute of the game. Quick thinking and a long throw from Ben Chandler unlocked the Indies defence, Matt then finished his chance with aplomb to give us a two goal cushion.
Indies did have a few opportunities late in the game, but thanks to a series of fine saves from Toby Reuss the clean sheet remained intact. The shutout was no less than the resolute defence deserved, who were well marshelled by Phil Emberton all afternoon.
Although probably not the best game for the neutral, it was great to get the three points in the opening game.
