Former Island age-group coach Andy Manning and Alex Le Prevost, the former Muratti and Guernsey FC player, have agreed to be coaching lieutenants to incoming manager Chris Tardif.
The latter will officially take charge from the end of the current campaign but is delighted to have secured two of the best young coaches around as he looks to put things in place for a brighter future for the 17-times Priaulx League winners.
‘Part of this opportunity and project as I see it, is to create the right culture at the club which in turn will make us competitive again and a club players want to play for,’ said Tardif.
‘This is set by non-negotiable behaviours that people buy into and that has to start from the manager and coaches. ‘We do this by installing three behaviours being high standards in training, work ethic and a mentality to win.
‘To that effect I am truly delighted to have Andy and “Prev” by my side. They are both great coaches and will be there for me to lean on and to challenge me. ‘They have a fantastic understanding of the game and the real bonus of a wide knowledge of the younger players coming through. ‘Hopefully, they will also be a draw for some. Success will be measured on the pitch but there is much more to this.
‘I am here for a legacy and this will only be truly measured over the next 5-20 years. If I can attract the standard of coaches such as Andy and “Prev” back into the game that can only benefit Guernsey football as a whole.’
Alex Le Prevost, who was a mainstay of the Green Lions team until persistent injury problems ended his career, said he was pleased to be back in the game. “Tards” asked me whether I would be interested in joining his coaching team at Rangers and once he explained his and the clubs plans I was keen to be involved.
‘Since giving up playing I have missed being involved in football and I see this a great opportunity. I am looking forward to working with the players and hopefully push the team to where we want them to be.’
Co-assistant Andy Manning, is returning to Rangers after many years away and took little persuasion to join the rebuild project. ‘I’m excited for the challenge that lies ahead - I believe the time, club and set up is right for me to move into adult football,’ he said.
‘My knowledge of the 16-24 year old age bracket, having coached previous Island U15/16 sides, could be vital in helping Rangers move forward and attract players. ‘It’s also vitally important to nurture and develop the current talent, ensuring they stay at the club.
For me, there is no better current club coaching set-up than “Fal”, Rob, “Tards” and “Prev”.
Previously, the Channel Islands oldest football club had announced a director of football in long-term Press football correspondent and sports editor Rob Batiste, followed by an agreement with KGV to stage all their first-team games on an expanded quality pitch.
There will also be changes to come in the youth coaching set-up with an imminent announcement in that area, while former Ranger Myles Bougourd, joins from Manzur as head coach of the development/Lancaster One squad.
