Tardif secures first significant signing

RANGERS have made their first significant signing of the new Chris Tardif regime with the capture of striker Marlon Jardim.

RANGERS have made their first significant signing of the new Chris Tardif regime with the capture of striker Marlon Jardim.

The 31-year-old has long been one of the best finishers in the FNB Priaulx League and his goals helped Manzur establish themselves at the top table before the club endured problems last season which led to them withdrawing from the Priaulx.

‘He is a quality finisher,’ said new Rangers coach Tardif who in his role as Island manager had taken Jardim to the Ynys Mon tournament pre Covid and seen the player flourish impressively.

Jardim, who remained loyal to Manzur despite plenty of opportunity to challenge for trophies elsewhere, said ‘I can’t wait for it’.

He added: ‘I’m very happy…it should be good working with Chris again.

‘It will be my pleasure.’

Rangers new director of football Rob Batiste believes Jardim will fulfil an important role in the squad heading into the 2022-23 season and put the striker back in contention for an Island place and next year’s Island Games in Guernsey.

‘He brings experience which is important in the way we want to go forward.

‘I can’t wait to see Marlon in tandem with Sam Heathcote, who I fully expect will relish playing with someone who makes clever runs and feed off our highly talented U18 forward.’
