Timms' late pen seals the points

FNB Priaulx League

Rangers 3 Northerners 2

STEFFAN TIMMS (pictured) tucked away an 85th minute penalty to secure a deserved three points for Rangers under the KGV 3G lights on Tuesday night.
‘We have given North run for their money several times this season, so it was great to finally get one over them,’ said a delighted Rangers coach Chris Tardif.
‘It was thoroughly deserved and with such a young team too,’ he added of a game in which we created very many good chances without taking them.
With the injuries piling up, particularly in terms of defenders, Tardif recalled veteran Joe Clatworthy to the starting side and playing alongside Jacques Cauvin in central defence 'Clatts' was influential and helped guide the youngsters through.
Those youngsters included Moe Gontier who played most of the 90 at left back.
Jack Medhurst gave North a very early lead but eight minutes in Zac Batiste levelled and a few minutes later when Batiste’s effort was half-saved by the North keeper Timms pounced from close range to put us ahead.
Rangers should really have extended their lead by the break, but half-time arrived with us still leading only 2-1.
A Medhurst tap-in put North level on the hour mark, but Rangers kept creating good and the best opportunities while North had more possession.
The win lifts us above North and back into fifth spot in the table, just adrift of fourth-placed Sylvans.
