Rangers Reserves 0–2 Alderney
Half-time: 0–0
Rangers Reserves produced a spirited display in challenging conditions but were eventually beaten 2–0 by an experienced Alderney side at St Andrews.
The opening 45 minutes saw both teams struggle to impose themselves as strong winds disrupted the rhythm of play. Rangers defended resolutely, with young centre-back Alfie Thompson particularly impressive as he dealt confidently with Alderney’s attacking threats.
The home side matched their opponents for nearly 70 minutes, but the visitors’ experience ultimately proved decisive. Jamie Blackham broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, finishing well to give Alderney the lead. Rangers responded positively and continued to press, but were caught out in stoppage time when Sam White doubled the advantage to seal victory.
Alderney’s squad, which included several players of Priaulx League calibre such as Miles Pengelley and club captain John Adamson, showed their quality and composure in key moments. The visitors also handed debuts to three players, all of whom contributed to a mature and organised team performance.
Despite the result, there were encouraging signs for Rangers. Their resilience against strong opposition, combined with the promise shown by younger players, provides a solid platform as they look to build on last season’s progress and their pre-season preparations.
Rangers Reserves return to action on Wednesday 17th September when they face North Reserves at Victoria Park (kick-off 19:30).
